I produced a batch of 10 of these beauties, and they’re being shipped and hand-delivered to my favorite ad and design agencies throughout the greater Los Angeles area. They feature some of my illustration work and of course, some of my personal favorite type treatments. I’ll be producing and sending more soon, but I wanted you all to have a look at these before the first batch is all sent.

In recent news, I’m freelancing for the lovely folks at the Westfield Brand Studio, doing production design for their various campaigns and promotions. They’re fantastic to work with, even when I’m working from home, and I’ve actually become a fan of getting into the shirt and tie on days that I go into the office.

My birthday was earlier this month, and I thank all of you who called/posted on facebook, and even those of you who totally forgot—I still love you. It feels weird being middle-aged now, but I’m stoked for retirement and social security and all the comforts and wisdom of age and maturity.

Also I have to throw this in: apparently my currency design has been featured in the print version of some crazy Icelandic or Polish blog. I can’t understand a bit of it, but my designs are all over it, and it’s in Icelandic or Greek or something, and I’m credited by name—so I’m pumped. If anyone can translate, I’m dying to know what it says.

It is with great pride, excitement, and some apprehension that I announce a momentous new development: I am now the proud owner of an ’89 Volvo Wagon.

Look upon its worn metallic glory, and let the awe and terror enter your heart.

At over 280,000 miles, the machine has more than likely traveled and dominated most of the known civilized world. And all of the uncivilized world. It came only with a wolfskin pelt and a bumper sticker that read “I eat dead people.” (Just kidding. Or am I?)

I opened the hood today to give a guy a jump at the DMV, but found the entire engine and battery to be only a crude assemblage of wooden pulleys, rope and human bones, powered by the heart of a bull walrus. Needless to say, we successfully jump-started his car and briefly provided electricity to the entire Culver City area.

I’m still open to suggestions for a name, unless the car speaks to me in a dream, or in real life. Some possibilities include:

Euripides
Malachai
Shaneequa

I could go on endlessly (and probably will, at some point) about the new ride, but I’ll leave it at I’m wildly excited to finally have a vehicle in this massive, spectacular city of Los Angeles.

In other news: there’s new work up on the site! Check it out, tell me what you think, tell your friends to check it, etc. At the moment, I’m working on a visual re-brand of my uncle (and personal hero) Ray Thompson’s venerable event-lighting company, Images by Lighting. Very excited to be working with my amazing family out here, it is a pleasure and an honor.

The freelance is coming in, and I’m finally feeling settled into LA. Things were tense for a while, but the economy (in the creative world, at least) appears to be picking up, and more opportunities are visible on the horizon. Check back here soon, I hope to have a couple ID systems up in their entirety, as well as the Rome (best. show. ever.) blu-ray gift set I worked on while at 30sixty!

I love that attitude, it implies a limitless sense of wonder and potential for life experiences that is so easily lost or forgotten in every-day living. I’m very excited to have finally started this blog, get ready to see some wild stuff appearing over the next couple weeks. I’m using this as a platform to show current work and tell some of the bizarre and awesome stories about post-college/grad school life.

In current news: I’m currently available for any and all freelance projects! Deutsch was good to me, but we’ve said goodbye for now and it’s time for new and wilder things.
